About the event
Flintknapping 101
Presented by Phil Geib
Saturday, September 19 at 1:00 PM
Phil Geib has worked as an archaeologist for more than 45 years. He was a contract field archaeologist in the Southwest for the first half of his career and is now a professor of archaeology and anthropology at UNL. He started flintknapping in 1979, slowly gaining experience in this ancient craft.
One of the classes he teaches at UNL is “Lithic Technology,” where students learn about stone tool production and use. Do you have a potentially interesting stone artifact or two? Bring it to the program!
Learn how people in the past made tools and weapons from rocks. It was a crucial survival skill in ancient times and is a way to make blades, arrowheads, and tools. Guests will see hand specimens and a demonstration mixed in with a slide show.
